Why do,s everyone go on about lead guitar solo,s usually hotel california has any one out there ?

bothered to listen properly to the "california " bassline it is also superb it just makes the whole song right but the lead is also outstanding obviously but I do tend to dissect a song lyrics, bass ,skins, lead but in my defence I am a Rushhead

alex lifeson great axeman, not given enough space to let rip in my opinion. yes geddy lee can bass, peart can drum. lifesons' work is 2112, temple of syrix, where he picks the guitar up and starts strumming. genuis!
Reply:i have to say phil lynott was my all time hero in music, well him and hendrix but there's lots of bands out there who will never have the talent or skill that rush has. Report It

Reply:hotel Calif is so overrated it's incredible. Since you like to dissect individual parts, have you listened to any Jimi Hendrix Experience, or Black Sabbath's first album? Lots of good tidbits there.
Reply:Yeah, I like a good bassline too, and sometimes the drums catch my ear. Lars Ulrich is an ar$ehole but his drumming on 'One' is immense.
Reply:I totally agree with your song choice, it's awesome,

but I also like sweet child of mine, and sultans of swing.
Reply:I like the Eagles, don't get me wrong....but Rush RULES. All the way around they *rock*. They are masters of complexity and subtle changes that totally blow my mind.
Reply:If you like basswork, check out Tony Levin who plays for Peter Gabriel. Songs like Secret World come to mind.
Reply:I don't mind putting Hotel California in that category. But, anything with Mark Knopfler is amazing. He truly was a talent. I also love The Edge though. I'm a U2er for life!
Reply:guns n roses
Reply:I get off on dissecting the parts of a song too. I'm currently on a bit of a Fleetwood Mac buzz, and I'd never noticed how good their basslines were. Awesome stuff.

My wife can't do it. She say's she just hears the whole song as one complete thing, and can't differentiate the different instruments. I can't understand how she does that. I just can't hear a song without picking out the instruments and analyzing their parts.
Reply:Hotel California has two guitarists playing most of the solo.

When they recorded it, they layered about seven other guitar tracks over it, in places to achieve the final recording. The bassline is superb, and is also quite enjoyable to play.
Reply:If you like Hotel California, have a listen to Eric Claptons' absolutely beautiful "Let it Grow" from the 'Layla and other assorted love songs' album. The chords are almost exactly the same, the tempo is similar, the construction is familiar... Clapton wrote this a couple of years before Henley + the boys did Hotel. It's a gorgeous track, with incredible interplay between the instruments.

Yes, flyksidekk, Knopfler is superb, innovative and utterly unique, and responsible for this little boy changing from classical to rock - thank you Mark. And hell yeah, U2 just keep getting better.
Reply:Lead all the way mate, theres more notes for a start off! Yeah ok you do get some one off bass riffs from time to time but few and far between.
Reply:The combination of the guitar work of Don Felder %26amp; joe Walsh deserves to put hotel California among the top guitar solo's ever.

To put Hendrix among'st the best guitarists is like putting Gary Glitter amongst the best childminders ever. Anyone can turn controls full up to distort and hide their inability to play.

If you want to hear a proper guitarist, listen to Davy Graham or Bert Jansch.
